The Fiscal Intermediary Shared System (FISS) Attending and Rendering dataset provides a list of those attending and rendering physicians for the FISS. FISS edits require that the Line Item Rendering Physician information be transmitted when providers submit a combined claim. Claims that include both facility and professional components, need to report the rendering physician or other practitioner at the line level if it differs from the rendering physician/practitioner reported at the claim level.

The Order and Referring dataset provides information on all physicians and non-physician practitioners, by their National Provider Identifier (NPI), who are of a type/specialty that is legally eligible to order and refer in the Medicare program and who have current enrollment records in Medicare.

The Learning Resources Database is a catalog of interactive tutorials, videos, online classes, finding aids, and other instructional resources on National Library of Medicine (NLM) products and services. Resources may be available for immediate use via a browser or downloadable for use in course management systems.

This dataset represents weekly respiratory virus-related hospitalization data and metrics aggregated to national and state/territory levels reported during two periods: 1) data for collection dates from August 1, 2020 to April 30, 2024, represent data reported by hospitals during a mandated reporting period as specified by the HHS Secretary; and 2) data for collection dates beginning May 1, 2024, represent data reported voluntarily by hospitals to CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). NHSN monitors national and local trends in healthcare system stress and capacity for up to approximately 6,000 hospitals in the United States. Data reported represent aggregated counts and include metrics capturing information specific to COVID-19- and influenza-related hospitalizations, hospital occupancy, and hospital capacity. • Data source description: As of May 1, 2024, Respiratory Pathogen, Hospital Capacity, and Supply data (i.e., ‘COVID-19 hospital data’) are no longer required to be reported to HHS through CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network. Data for collection dates prior to May 1, 2024, represent data reported during a mandated reporting period as specified by the HHS Secretary. Data for collection dates May 1, 2024, and onwards represent data reported voluntarily to NHSN; as such, data included represent reporting hospitals only for a given week and might not be complete or representative of all hospitals.
• Data quality: While CDC reviews reported data for completeness and errors and corrects those found, some reporting errors might still exist within the data. CDC and partners work with reporters to correct these errors and update the data in subsequent weeks. Data since December 1, 2020, have had error correction methodology applied; data prior to this date may have anomalies that are not yet resolved. Data prior to August 1, 2020, are unavailable.
• Metrics and inclusion criteria: Many hospital subtypes, including acute care and critical access hospitals, are included in the metric calculations included in this dataset. Psychiatric, rehabilitation, and religious non-medical hospital types, as well as Veterans Administration, Defense Health Agency, and Indian Health Service hospitals, are excluded from calculations. For a given metric calculation, hospitals that reported those data at least one day during a given week are included.

The Respiratory Syncytial Virus Hospitalization Surveillance Network (RSV-NET) is a network that conducts active, population-based surveillance for laboratory-confirmed RSV-associated hospitalizations in children younger than 18 years of age and adults. The network currently includes 58 counties in 12 states, and data are collected and reported during the October 1-April 30 season each year. In some years, additional months of data are collected. In adults, RSV hospitalization tracking began in the 2016–2017 season. In children less than 18 years of age, surveillance began in the 2018–19 season. Because the surveillance areas and age groups included in surveillance have changed over time, trends should be interpreted with caution. Hospitalization data are preliminary and subject to change as more data become available. In particular, case counts and rates for recent hospitalizations are subject to lag. Lag for RSV-NET case identification and reporting might increase around holidays or during periods of increased hospitalization utilization. As data are received each week, prior case counts and rates are updated accordingly.

COVID-NET, RSV-NET, and FluSurv-NET (RESP-NET) are population-based surveillance systems that collect data on laboratory-confirmed hospitalizations among children and adults through a network of over 250 acute-care hospitals in 14 states.

In 2020, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) partnered with the Census Bureau on an experimental data system called the Household Pulse Survey. This survey was designed to complement the ability of the federal statistical system to rapidly respond and provide relevant information about how emergent issues are impacting American households. Beginning in Phase 4.0 (on January 9, 2024), questions on social support, loneliness, and social isolation were added to the survey. These questions have been included on other nationally representative surveys. Briefly, the question on social support was included on the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) from July 2020-December 2021 and was added to the 2024 NHIS. The question on loneliness was added to the 2024 NHIS. The questions on social isolation are adapted from the Berkman-Syme Social Network Index and were included on an earlier cycle of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
